CASE STUDY II By Imilike-Ulo D&G Women

This is a case involving a man – Nnadi Bernard – who locked his brother’s wife Eucharia who is a widow with her child in Obollo Afor Police Station because because of misunderstanding with them.  The case was reported to Umunna Ogene (D&G) women Imilike-Ulo on 10th May 2007.  The widow Eucharia Nnadi had a little quarrel with her brother in-law’s wife.  The issue was about whose turn it should be to collect cash crops in the family farm.  According to Eucharia, it was her turn but the brother inlaw’s wife will not let her be and they resorted to fighting.  As a result of this Benard took the case to the police, who came and detained Eucharia – the widow.  The case of Eugharia was brought to D&G  women.  The women rushed to the house of Bernard and he ran way with members of his family.  The D&G women later decided and went to the police station on 20th June 2007 chanting their slogans that if the widow and her child were not released, then the police officers will lock all the women in their cells.  Seeing the seriousness in the eyes of the women, they had no option than to release the widow and her child immediately without Bail?  Later Bernard came back with kolanuts to the D&G women and asked for forgiveness in order not to face the sanction of the group.  The women penalized and mandated him to compensate the widow with N10,000 for the troubles he and his family caused her.
