CASE STORY
My name is Mrs Cordelia Ugwu, a member of Nwannebuike Awhum in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, I sell clothes – lace materials and wrappers.
I joined DEC Enugu in 2005 with a loan of N5,000 from DEC micro credit scheme. After repaying the amount collected, I collected N10,000 and added it to my business. During the third year I collected N50,000, by now I was able to buy Dutch materials that are being sold by few traders and after repaying the N50,000, I collected another N80,000 which I now put into my business. Today I testify that I am a proud owner of a shop filled with materials. I am encouraging my fellow women to follow my footstep and bring change into their life and also to act as agent of social change for better standard of living both in their family and society in general. I am very optimistic that l will continue to grow and expand in my business. DEC Microfinance Institution is a force to be reckoned with in this State as regards women socio-economic empowerment, especially women at the grassroot and their families. God bless Development Education Centre Enugu and her people oriented programmes
My name is Mrs Ifeoma Ezema, a member of Mary Women Self help Group Nsukka, in Nsukka Local government Area of Enugu State. My group joined DEC Microfinance Programme in 2008. My first loan from DEC micro credit scheme was N10,000 and after paying the loan l collected N20,000 and now l collect up to N100,000. Before joining DEC micro credit scheme, l hardly bought goods of my choice to display in my shop and even when there are goods to display l usually collect the goods on credit. Now l travel to Onitsha and Lagos to buy my goods. My children who were unable to attend school before are all in school now. This was made possible because l now have a strong financial background that offered me the opportunity of having lots of good in my shop and at the same time make profits from the business. I thank DEC Enugu for her vision.
