PROGRESS REPORT ON WOMEN SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT IN THE SOUTH EAST NIGERIA BY DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION CENTRE (DEC) FOR THE PERIOD AUGUST 2007 - JANUARY 2008

The aim of DEC Social Services is to better the lives of people especially those women who are not opportuned to be socio-economically self reliant.  As a follow-up to our last report, we wish to present the progress report on the following programmes:

1. Democracy and Governance programme using critical mass approach of mobilizing women to act as a force to bring about social changes at the grassroots.

2. Adult literacy/Basic education for adult women.

3. Skills acquisition training for out-of-school unemployed female youths.

4. Community Health Education/Promotion for rural dwellers.

5. Community mobilization and community development through facilitation of Community Based Organizations (CBO) to initiate and prioritize their needs towards provision of their basic social infastructures.
