UPHOLDING THE RIGHTS OF WOMEN IN COMMUNITY GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES THE ROLE OF DEC ENUGU WOMEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME IN IDAH AND OFU LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF KOGI STATES

The rights of women in governance thought in some parts of the world is seen as an opportunity to serve the people, in other places, it is seen as a taboo and a no go area for women. But it is important to note that most of the successes achieved by men in the religious books are facilitated by women and in other cases the women themselves do bring glory to their nations and community as was seen in the various actions of women of faith in the bible.

Idah and Ofu local government areas are part of the local government areas that are partnering with DE Enugu in her women empowerment programme for the inclusion and active participation of women in community governance and development of the rural poor but active people.

In carrying out this task of women participation in governance which was not done before in Ugwolawo and Ochadamu, the leaders of the communities and the people in one voice and accord not only accepted women in their traditional council but also instituted and made the women permanent members of the council even if they are no more

This institution has removed all barriers and other traditional belie that hinder the participation of women in the council of the chief.

It is also worthy of note that DEC Enugu and the leadership of the people are in partnership to not only include women in the councils, but also to improve the health condition of these communities through her community health intervention program and also to ensure that the young girls and young mothers get skills for their development

Development Education Center will continue to improve the living condition of the people and the society where men and women will have just and egalitarian society
